Certified Nurse Aide
Butler's Certified Nurse Aide class is our basic course for paraprofessionals in Allied Health. This course follows guidelines of the Kansas State Department of Health and Environment, and prepares the student to take the Kansas Certified Nurse Aide examination and work in Kansas Nursing Homes. The Nurse Aide gives simple, basic nursing care to patients and always works under the direct supervision of the licensed nurse. The course is 104 clock hours which includes classroom lecture, discussion, skills practice in the learning lab, and clinical experience in a nursing home.
Prerequisites for Certified Nurse Aide (AH122 - 5 credit hours)
- Students are required to take the ASSET reading exam and score 35 or higher in the reading portion of the test
- Bring the following ON THE FIRST DATE OF CLASS:
CNA students will need to wear a purple polo shirt purchased at the BCC Bookstore, and white slacks or skirt, purchased at the store of your choice. The shoes should be white leather or vinyl with little or no color on them. No canvas shoes. No crocs. No open toes or open heels. You will need a watch with a second hand. Wear street clothes on the first day of class. Your instructor will provide a schedule and tell you when to wear the uniform.
It is a policy of the BCC Department of Nursing that students in the clinical area do not have facial piercing, visible tattoos, long fingernails, or false fingernails. No dangling earrings can be worn.
Each student will pay a $20.00 fee for the state exam. This appears as a course fee and will be collected with tuition.
- Copy of TB skin test or chest X-ray current within one year
- Copy of physician's Statement of Good Health
(above two items available at College Health Services)
- Copy of social security card
Evening CNA classes also meet on some Saturdays 8:00am - 5:00pm. Book(s) available at BCC Bookstores. (El Dorado, Andover, Marion, Council Grove)
