Auto Body Course Offerings AB 101 Introduction to Collision Repair and Shop Operations. 2 hours credit. The course is designed to acquaint the student with the basic skills used in collision repair. The emphasis will be placed on the collision repair career; measuring and mixing of paints and chemicals; tools and equipment used in collision repair; personal and shop safety; and writing a damage report of a damaged vehicle. AB 103 Auto Body Welding Principles and Techniques. 3.5 hours credit. This course is designed to acquaint the student with the basic skills used in auto body welding. The emphasis will be placed on safety, protective clothing, tools and equipment procedures, and techniques of gas metal arc welding (GMAW) and oxyacetylene gas welding. AB 112 Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair I. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 101. This course is designed to teach the student conventional and unitized body construction. The emphasis will be placed on what can be repaired and what must be replaced. AB 115 Plastics and Adhesives I. 2 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 101 and AB 126. This course is designed to teach the student the techniques and methods of using plastics and adhesives in the repair of domestic and foreign manufactured automobiles. Safety during the mixing and handling of these chemicals will be emphasized. Identification of when and what type of substance to use for repair, how it is applied, and how the various plastics are used by manufacturer's in their designs will be taught. AB 122 Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair II. 2 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 112. This course is designed to teach the student conventional and unitized body construction. The emphasis will be placed on repairing auto panels to the manufacturer's specifications. AB 124 Structural Analysis and Damage Repair I - Frames. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 101 and AB 103. This course provides the student practical applications in frame inspection, measurement and repair. Welding applications will be used as needed. The emphasis of this course is on straightening and aligning frames to manufacturer's specifications. AB 125 Plastics and Adhesives II. 2 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 101 and AB 115. This course is designed to teach the student the techniques and methods of repairing flexible and rigid plastic parts of domestic and foreign manufactured automobiles. Safety during the mixing and handling of these chemicals will be emphasized. AB 126 Painting and Refinishing: Surface Preparation and Safety Precautions. 2 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 101. This course is designed to teach the student techniques and methods of preparing the Auto Body surface for painting. The emphasis will be placed on different methods of preparing a surface for painting to include chemical, mechanical and physical means. Safety precautions will be emphasized throughout the training. AB 193 and 194 Internship I and II. 1-3 hours credit each. Integrate education with on-the-job experience (unpaid positions). AB 203 Painting and Refinishing: Problem Solving. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 246 or instructor's consent. The course is designed to teach the student techniques and methods of correcting problems encountered during the painting process. The causes and cures of finish defects will be studied and procedures established to correct the defects. AB 232 Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair III. 1.5 hours credit. Prerequisites: AB 122. This course is designed to teach the student conventional and unitized body construction. The emphasis will be placed on replacing and adjusting auto panels to the manufacturer's specifications. AB 234 Structural Analysis and Damage Repair II - Unibody. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 124. This course provides the student practical applications in unibody inspection, measurment and repair. Welding applications will be used as needed. the emphasis of this course is on straightening and aligning the unibody of manufacturer's specifications and the replacement of fixed glass. AB 236 Painting and Refinishing: Spray Gun Operation I. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 101 and AB 126. This course is designed to teach the student techniques and methods of painting the auto body. The emphasis will be place on paint mixing, matching of colors and different types of paint, and the operations of a variety of spray guns used in the auto body industry. AB 242 Non-Structural Analysis and Damage Repair IV. 1.5 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 232. This course is designed to teach the student conventional and unitized body construction. The emphasis will be placed on repairing and replacing movable glass in automobiles to the manufacturer's specifications. AB 244 Structural Analysis and Damage Repair III. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 234. This course provides the student practical applications in frame and unibody inspection, measurement, and repair of various domestic and foreign manufactured automobiles. Glass replacement and welding applications will be used as needed. The emphasis of this course is on properly repairing to manufacturer's specifications. AB 246 Painting and Refinishing: Spray Gun Operation II. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite: AB 126 and AB 236. This course is to teach the student techniques and methods of painting the auto body. The emphasis will be placed on paint mixing, matching of colors and types of paint, and the operations of a variety of spray guns used in the auto body industry. AB 253 and 254 Special Topics. 3 hours credit each. Prerequisite: Approval of division dean and instructor. Topics of specific interest the student will be developed. These topics will be established by students needs or requirements. Areas of specific needs will be pursued and instructional material that lends itself to current trends or topics that are needed to supplement normal classroom instruction will be offered. AB 294 and 295 Directed Independent Study in Auto Collision Repair. 3 hours credit each. Prerequisite: 2.0 GPA minimum and approval of division dean and instructor. This course is an extension of the Auto Collision curriculum and provides a structured learning experience to broaden the student's comprhension of principles and competencies associated with the Auto Collision program. Topics of specific interest to the student, augmenting and Auto Collision curriculum are developed with objectives based on individual student needs and/or requirments to apply learned skills to out of class activities or a work-related enviroment. |
