College Disturbances
The following procedures shall be followed in the case of college disorders, student unrest, or the seizing and occupying of any Butler Community College building or portion thereof:

A. The president or an administrator shall be notified immediately of such activity. Any college official shall be authorized to call for assistance from law enforcement officers.

B. No conference shall be held between administrators and parties involved in such activities so long as any violence is taking place.

C. If such activity persists after the expiration of a reasonable time, the student involved shall be considered a trespasser and shall be subject to such action as may be brought by proper law enforcement officials.

D. Any student or others responsible for the disturbance or damage caused to the buildings and property of the college by their actions (except police authorities and employees of the college in carrying out their assigned duties) shall be subject to civil and criminal action as the case may require for the recovery of damages inflicted upon the college. Butler students involved in such disturbances are subject to disciplinary action as outlined in Section 1, Grounds for Probation Suspension or Expulsion.

Any student wanting a complete and comprehensive statement on policies concerning student suspension and expulsion, student rights to the appeal process, etc. should contact the Vice President for Student Services.

What to do if Arrested
There are six things to remember:
1. Do not resist arrest.
2. Do not antagonize the police.
3. You do not have to say anything.
4. You do not have to sign anything.
5. Request a lawyer.
6. Notify parents or someone who can assist you. Everyone is allowed a lawyer. If you cannot afford a lawyer, the court is bound by law to appoint one for you.

Sexual Harassment Policy
Butler does not tolerate any behavior by administration, faculty, staff or students which constitutes sexual harassment of other students, staff, faculty or administrators. Such behavior subverts the mission of the college and is damaging to the academic environment, threatening the careers of students, faculty, staff and administrators. For the purpose of this policy, sexual harassment is defined as:

Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature (including sexually explicit language, jokes, etc. ) when:

1. Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual’s employment or academic advancement,
2. Submission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as the basis for employment decisions or academic decisions affecting such individual, or
3. Such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work or academic performance, or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive working or academic environment.
