Online General Physical Science Lab Supplies
PS100 General Physical Science
You may already have many of these items in your household. They are common household items that can be picked up at grocery, hardware, or discount stores in your area. Most have a long shelf life and leftover material can be used for every day household cleaning and cooking.
Household Cleaning supplies
- Rubbing alcohol
- Muriatic acid (The Works found at Dillons and other stores, is recommended)
- Lye (i.e., Red Devil drain cleaner) The key ingredient is sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide
- Alka Seltzer or generic brand.
- Epsom salts
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Washing soda (substitute for baking soda)
- Ammonia solution (i.e., Mr. Clean)
- Trisodium phosphate (TSP) usually with the paint supplies at a hardware store
- 9-volt battery
- Candle
- Butane lighter
Miscellaneous Materials
- Table salt
- Sugar
- White vinegar
- Red cabbage (beet juice can substitute)
- Quick rising yeast
- Baking soda
- Aluminum foil
- Alum
- Cardboard box
- Flashlight (cheap one)
- Binoculars
- 8 Oz. Styrofoam Cup
- Lead: Fishing sinkers (read label for composition)
- Aluminum, Iron: Peruse the hardware store. Some screws, nails, hooks, and other miscellaneous items are made solely of one of these metals.
- Glass Bottle
- Stringed Instrument you can borrow (guitar, violin, banjo mandolin etc.)
- Small Paper or plastic Cups
- Tape
