About Visual Arts

You have a unique artistic vision. We help you express it.

We live in a visual world. The more advanced we become technologically, the more we communicate visually and the more we depend on visual artists to interpret, define and expand our perspectives on the world. Art is as relevant as it has ever been, not only to our culture, but to the way we connect and communicate in a global society.

We support your impulse for creative expression. At Butler, you will be exposed to the diverse world of art and guided to find your place in it. You’ll exchange ideas with other artists, including your fellow students, your instructors and visiting professionals who give you the benefit of their real-world experience. You’ll have the opportunity to work in two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and digital media. Our campus gallery, the Erman B. White Art Gallery, is home to six art exhibits each school year from regionally and nationally recognized artists. Every April, students participate in a juried art exhibition and have the opportunity to showcase their works of art in the gallery. We end the school year with a student art sale.

Drawing out your talent with individual attention.

You’ll be taught by a faculty of professional, exhibiting artists who take the time to work with you individually and are committed to developing your talent. We get you started with a strong foundation in drawing, then move on to a diverse range of coursework that includes painting, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics. Our exceptional facilities include several large studios, a computer graphics lab and a lecture room equipped with the latest presentation technology.

Scholarships are available for full-time students interested in our art program. They are awarded based on the submission of portfolios during our Fine Arts Audition Day held each spring semester.

Many of our graduates pursue higher degrees at prominent four-year institutions where they find that the skills they acquired at Butler are invaluable. Graduates of the Butler Art program are pursuing successful careers in studio arts, various design fields, and education around the nation and the world. Butler success stories include, a professional photographer in Beijing, China, a filmmaker in Egypt, and painters, designers, and educators from Los Angeles to New York.  We invite you to get started on your academic and professional career in art in a close-knit, supportive community of artists. Become one of our success stories!
