LPN to RN (Advanced Standing)

The NR 115 IV Therapy for LPN course is 3 credit hours. Students must submit an application to Butler Community College before enrolling in the course. There is no application fee for applying to Butler.

The Kansas Nurse Practice Act requires that students have a Kansas practical nursing license to enroll in this course (see https://ksbn.kansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/NPA/60-16-104.pdf). Once enrolled, your LPN license in the state of Kansas will be verified online by the Nursing Department.

The following documents must be on file and complete prior to the first day of class, otherwise students will be dropped from the course. These health documents are to be sent directly to College Health Services at 901 S. Haverhill Road, El Dorado, KS 67042 or email documents to collegehealth@butlercc.edu.  Please call College Health at 316.733.3371 to verify that your records were received.

1. A Nursing Health Record (Entry physical exam form) completed and signed by a health care provider demonstrating compliance with the clinical facility requirements.
2. The Health Record includes verification of Tdap,  two MMR‘s, influenza and Covid 19 vaccines, 2 step TB skin test or serum test,  Varicella (chickenpox) vaccines or titer, and the Hepatitis B series or signed refusal form.
   Butler College Health Services can do physicals and immunizations if needed. For an appointment (required), call Butler of El Dorado College Health Service phone 316.322.3371 or Butler of Andover College Health Service phone 316.323.6282.
3. Current CPR certification (American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider OR the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer). Certification should include adult, child, infant and two-person.

The didactic (lecture) portion of the course will be offered through Canvas, Butler‘s online platform. You will be required to come to the El Dorado campus three times for laboratory experiences and testing. Clinical experiences will be done at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado. The state exam for IV Certification will be taken online in the Butler of El Dorado Nursing computer lab, 1500 building.
