Fire Science Residency Program

Live the experience and learn on-the-job.

Butler's Fire Science residency program is the only one of its kind in Kansas. In partnership with the El Dorado Fire Department, we provide a unique and exciting opportunity for students in our Fire Science program. Living in the newly-built Fire Station No. 2 in El Dorado, the program provides students with a hands-on learning environment along with college-level instruction and community education seminars.

Ten students are selected for residency and may reside in the station for the duration of their studies or as long as they maintain eligibility. Each student is assigned to a specific municipal fire department in and around El Dorado and are classified as a volunteer firefighter. Residents are assigned specific shifts to gain on-the-job experiences.
