About Vocal Music

WHY BUTLER VOCAL MUSIC?

Whether you sing pop, rhythm and blues, classical or musical theatre, Butler's nationally-recognized instructors help train you in technique. The vocal music program also has a strong working relationship with area professionals, including the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Music Theatre of Wichita, The Kansas Dance Academy, the internationally-ranked, SmorgasChorus and the Wichita Grand Opera. Butler students often have the opportunity to perform, intern and learn from these well-known organizations.

You don't have to be a music major to be awarded a scholarship. You just have to love making music. Activity scholarships offer an affordable way to continue your education and grow as a musician. Auditions are held annually and selected students receive scholarships to perform with Butler’s ensembles, including the Concert Choir, the Headliners Show Choir, the Chamber Singers, Butler Ladies, Smorgaschords Barbershop Quartet and the Noteables Ladies Quartet.

MUSIC EDUCATION

Music is fun. It’s soulful and impactful. Take your knowledge of music and help students develop their voice as a vocalist or instrumentalist. Along with learning fundamental music skills at Butler, you learn music theory, piano skills, vocal performance, composition and methods. You can learn from professional vocalists and musicians and use these skills to teach future generations.

You also have the opportunity to observe music education classes in the K-12 setting. Use your gift for performing and combine it with your gift for teaching others and you will succeed in music education at Butler.
