About Internships

Internship Definition - Students may observe or explore a career field of their choice. Students may enroll for 2-3 credit hours per semester. Internships are for a specific period of time and may serve as a precursor to professional employment. Student must secure internship in a related field.

Credit earned through Internships satisfies elective credit requirements in most Butler programs of study and is accepted by many area schools and colleges. Some programs require an internship. See Required Internships

Internship students must:

  • Obtain a paid or unpaid position in a career field of their choice. (Internships are for a specific period of time and may serve as a precursor to professional employment.)
  • Work 50 clock hours for each credit hour enrolled.
  • Complete academic assignments related to their internship or career goals.
  • Master competencies set out in a training plan developed by the student, supervisor and faculty coordinator.
