Butler Radio (KBTL 88.1 FM) is the El Dorado campus' student-operated radio station. You will get valuable hands-on experience producing entertainment, news, sports, and information programming (including talk shows, music shows, and play-by-play/color announcing of Butler football and basketball). Butler Radio broadcasts at 400 watts, covering the entire Butler County area, 365 days a year.
Activity scholarships, which cover tuition (equivalent to that paid by Kansas in-county residents) and books, are available each semester for Butler Radio staff. You don’t need to major in Mass Communications in order to participate or receive a scholarship, but you will be required to work on radio, television, and Internet projects.
Butler Radio is one of the most honored student radio stations in Kansas, regularly receiving more student awards from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters than any other two-year Kansas institution (and often receiving more awards than most four-year Kansas institutions). In addition, Butler Radio has been recognized for professional projects by the KAB and other organizations. Former Butler Radio students can be heard on radio stations throughout the Kansas area, many after completing four-year degrees.
