Vocal
The Butler Community College Vocal Music department offers students a vast opportunity to sing and dance. All vocalists have the opportunity to audition for the concert choir. Ensembles offering more extensive performance opportunities are filled by scholarship students on the basis of auditions held at the beginning of each semester.
Ensembles include the Butler Concert Choir (a 100+ voice choir), Jazz Indigo (a 12+ voice vocal jazz group), Chamber Singers, the Smorgaschords (a barbershop quartet), and Headliners and Sophisticated Ladies (two showchoirs providing spirited, choreographed performances).
A public relations arm of the College, the Headliners have hosted America Sings! Festivals in Washington, D.C. , and Houston, Texas. They have hosted a National Showstoppers Competition in Nashville, TN and in the National Branson Jubilee Showchoir Competition in Branson, MO. They have also traveled to Disney World, Niagara Falls, Las Vegas, Denver, San Antonio, Kansas City and Canada.
The Chamber Singers are a vital part of the Butler Music department. Besides touring and performing for schools and community groups, the select group of singers hosts the Christmas Renaissance Feaste each year. Throughout the academic year, the Chamber Singers perform a wide variety of literature, including madrigals, spirituals and vocal jazz.
The select group, Sophisticated Ladies, perform at concerts, offering up-tempo showchoir music and choreography.
