How to Choose a Database

Some databases list articles on a wide range of topics and provide the full text of many articles. It is good idea to begin with these databases.

• EBSCO
• ProQuest
• InfoTrac – Expanded Academic, Custom Newspapers
• Lexi-Nexis – News Search

Others provide in-depth coverage on more focused subject areas.

• Business – FirstSearch, InfoTrac(Business Resource Center), Lexis-Nexis
• History – EBSCO, Facts.com
• Literature – InfoTrac (Literature Resource Center)
• Legal – Lexis-Nexis
• Health/Medicine/Nursing – InfoTrac(Health Reference Center)
• Current Events – InfoTrac(Custom Newspapers), Facts.com, Lexis-Nexis

If you need more help choosing a database, try the Internet Research by Subject or ask a librarian.

If you find an article that isn’t full text, check another database by doing a publication search. The article could be full text in one of our other databases.

If you are unsure, ask a librarian. If you are sure that the library doesn’t won the journal, use InterLibrary Loan to order the article.
