Life Enrichment

Life Enrichment Group

The Life Enrichment Series is an educational, entertaining and cultural program for citizens 60 years of age and over. The series is intended to enrich the lives of Senior Citizens through programs which offer practical and useful information as well as entertainment.

Life Enrichment Series

If you're idea of retirement is to pull up a rocking chair and sit... .the Life Enrichment Program is not for you. We are constantly learning, growing and having fun. The Life Enrichment Series is intended to enrich the lives of senior citizens. This is done through programs that give practical and useful information as well as entertainment oriented programs. A typical morning session may cover such widespread topics as social security entitlement, model trains, edible wild plants or Alzheimer's disease. Other programs may include travelogues, musical presentations, five-day trips or other recreational activities.

Programs and Activities

The Life Enrichment programs are conducted throughout the year, with participants meeting for approximately four hours per week. These hours are spent in group learning sessions on Tuesday mornings from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. One and one-half hours are spent socializing at lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Butler cafeteria in the Student Union Building. Activities and programs are provided by a variety of individuals from all areas of life. In one morning you may have a doctor presenting a program on a health issue, a fellow Life Enrichment member presenting a travelogue, as well as Butler students providing special music. There is always something fun, interesting and informative happening with the Life Enrichment group. Although the formal meetings for Life Enrichment are conducted for eight weeks per semester, there are several other activities throughout the year. These activities vary from film festivals to health care forums. When you are an active member you will be notified by mail whenever such an activity occurs.

Trips

Several trips are arranged during the year. We may go to a luncheon at the Botanica Gardens in Wichita or to Burns to see a factory that manufactures dulcimers. Other trips will take you a little farther to places like Chicago or to St. Louis. Where ever we go you can count on having a lot of fun while learning about the area.

Costs

The cost of the Life Enrichment Series is nominal. Those participating who reside in Butler County also receive a Golden Grizzly card which allows them to attend most Butler student activities such as athletic events and drama productions free of charge. The Golden Grizzly card also entitles members free tuition (fees are charged) for any offered college course on a space-available basis.
