NR 115 IV Therapy for LPN Course Requirements

The Butler Community College's IV Therapy for LPN course is 3 credit hours. Each student must submit an application to Butler Community College before enrolling in the course. There is no application fee for applying to Butler.

The Kansas Nurse Practice Act requires that you have a Kansas nursing license to enroll in this course (see http://ksbn.org/npa/pages/60–16–104.pdf). Once enrolled, your LPN license in the state of Kansas will be verified online by the Nursing Department.

The following documents must be on file AND COMPLETE prior to the IV Therapy lab day on campus. If these documents are not submitted AND COMPLETE before the lab day, you will be dropped from the course. These health documents are to be sent directly to Butler College Health Services at 901 S. Haverhill Road, El Dorado, KS 67042. FAX 316–323–6850. Please call College Health at 316–733–3371 to verify that your records were recieved.

1. A Butler Department of Nursing Health Record (annual physical exam form) completed and signed by a health care provider demonstrating compliance with the clinical facility requirements.
2. The Health Record includes verification of an annual TB skin test. The immunization record also includes tetanus within the past 10 years (If you have not had a tetanus booster in the last two years, you need to get a Tdap), two MMR‘s, Varicella (chickenpox), and the Hepatitis B series or singed refusal form.
   Butler College Health Services can do physicals and immunizations if needed. 3. Current CPR certification (American Heart Association BLS Health Care Provider OR the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer). Certification should include adult, child, infant and two-person.

The didactic (lecture) portion of the course will be offered through ANGEL, Butler‘s online platform. You will be required to come to the El Dorado campus two to three times for laboratory experiences and testing. Clinical experiences will be done at either Susan B Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, Kansas or Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St Francis Campus, Wichita, Kansas. The state exam for IV Certification will be taken online in the Butler of El Dorado Nursing computer lab, 1500 building.

The textbook is approximately $50. It is available at through the Butler Bookstore.
