Butler - WSU Professional Link for Butler Community College (BCC) Department of Nursing and the School of Nursing at Wichita State University (WSU) have developed a “fast track” option to facilitate the Associate Degree graduate to achieve the BSN degree. The collaborative program is called “Professional Link for the Advancement of Nurses” (PLAN). Both nursing programs are committed to assisting nurses to complete the BSN degree to further their knowledge base, provide a means for continued advancement in the profession and to meet the necessary requirements for pursuing a graduate degree in nursing. Butler students will declare their intent to complete the BSN degree early in their program and will take prerequisites for the BSN program as they pursue the associate degree. The key to ensuring students are taking courses leading to both degrees is effective advising from both programs and early development of an individualized schedule of course work. A carefully developed plan of study permits students to obtain both the ADN and the BSN nursing degree in four years of full time study. The RN-BSN core nursing courses are on-line except for the clinical component. This facilitates program completion for the associate degree RN who is working while pursuing the bachelor’s degree. Selection of this program is by the student’s choice. Students may obtain the ADN and practice as RNs and then decide at any point in their nursing career to pursue a BSN degree. Participation or non-participation in this program will have no effect on the students’ selection into the Butler nursing program.
