JAZZ ENSEMBLE III

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
MU191. Jazz Ensemble III. 1 hour credit. Prerequisite: Mu 190. This is a continuation of MU190.

TEXTBOOK:
None.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The primary objectives of the Butler Big Band are: the acquisition of basic stylistic concepts in jazz; and appreciation for the art of jazz improvisation; the development of professionalism in the ensemble's attitudes and decorum; and general compliance with the highest musical standards.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
Methods of class instruction may include: rehearsal; audio-visual; class discussion; exercises in aural skills and music theory; attending live concert performances; and guest clinicians.

Telecourses: Independent study of audio/video materials augmented by text and study guide; collaboration and participation with class members and faculty via available means. Faculty role is facilitator of learning experiences.

METHODS OF EVALUATION:
Methods of evaluation may include: Written, aural, and playing test; concert reports; class attendance; subjective analysis of student's attitude and sense of decorum; and other methods of evaluation oat the discretion of the instructor.
