Internship I
Course Outline
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
EG 193. Internship I. One to three
hours credit. Prerequisites: Approval of Departmental Coordinator or Team
Leader. The course enables students to gain practical work experience
in unpaid-entry or advanced-level placements. The coordinator must approve
the employing supervisor and work environment. Topics of special interest
to the student will be developed. On-the-job training objectives as well
as seminars and research are components for evaluation. Alternating (full-time)
or parallel (part-time) experiences are acceptable.
TEXTBOOK:
The textbook required will vary with
the seminar topic. Department-developed materials will also be used.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this course, the
student will be able to:
- Demonstrate the timely, concise, and accurate completion of progressive competencies as set forth and defined in the individualized training agreement.
- Outline the experiences and objectives achieved in the work environment.
- Identify key concepts from seminar assignments and projects, and\or research.
- Compare the value of the experiential component to traditional assignments.
Determined independently after individual assessment of student related to current knowledge base and on-the-job objectives.
METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
The following will assist students in
achieving course objectives: on-the-job training, seminar/workshop activity,
mentoring by field faculty, coordinators, and colleagues, textbook and
handout reading assignments.
METHODS OF EVALUATION:
Grade determination will be dependent
upon on-the-job competencies, seminar/workshop activity, written activity,
and/or research. The student and employing supervisor will also evaluate
the completion of student's training objectives.
