Photography II

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
MC101. Photography II. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite: JN100. A continuation of JN100 with a special emphasis on color photography.

TEXTBOOK:
Photography, by Barbara London with John Upton 6th ed.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The primary objective of Photography II is to provide a variety of photographic experiences to improve their knowledge and skills with the camera and in the darkroom.

At the completion of this course, the student should have demonstrated the following skills:

    To have a basic understanding of Color Theory as it pertains to light.
    To be able to use controlled lighting to enhance their photographs.
    To be able to use special techniques and materials to enhance their photographs.
    To be able to shoot, process and mount color slide film.
    To be able to research a special topic in photography.
    To be able to manage a project through the stages of research, experimentation, to finished product.
    To be familiar with the process of making color enlargements.
TOPICAL OUTLINE OF UNITS:
  1. Communicating an Abstract Word through a Photography
  2. Shooting Developing and Printing High Contrast Film
  3. Hand Coloring and Toning Photographs
  4. Introduction to Color Theory
  5. Shooting, Developing and Mounting Color Slide Film
  6. Making Enlargements from Color Negatives
  7. Selecting, determining the scope, and researching an individual project
METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
  1. Lecture
  2. Visual Aids
  3. Classroom discussion
  4. Hands on laboratory work
  5. Student self-evaluation and revision of photography assignments
  6. Demonstration
  7. Field Trip
Telecourses: Independent study of audio/video materials augmented by text and study guide; collaboration and participation with class members and faculty via available means. Faculty role is facilitator of learning experiences.

METHODS OF EVALUATION:
The student will be evaluated on their portfolio presented at the end of the semester. The portfolio will contain all the assignments made during the semester.
