INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
MU 135. Instrumental Ensemble. 1 hour credit. Prerequisites: Ability to read music proficiently; consent of instructor. This class provides for the organization of jazz/pop combos and various small ensembles (eg. brass, woodwind, and percussion) where sufficient student interest exists. Occasional public performance is encouraged.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The primary objective of Instrumental Ensemble is to develop the student's capacity to rehearse and perform in a small ensemble. At the completion of this course, the student should have a basic familiarity of standard literature for the particular type ensemble in which he/she has played, and a heightened awareness of the psychological aspects of public performance.

METHODS OF INSTRUCTION:
Methods of class instruction may include rehearsal; audio-visual; class discussion; exercises in aural skills and music theory; attending live concert performances; and guest clinicians.

Telecourses: Independent study of audio/video
materials augmented by text and study guide; collaboration and participation
with class members and faculty via available means. Faculty role is facilitator
of learning experiences.

Methods of Evaluation may include concert reports; class attendance; subjective analysis of student's attitude and sense of decorum; and other methods of evaluation at the discretion of the instructor.
