COURSE DESCRIPTION:
MU222. Music History II. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite:
Theory of Music I or instructor's consent. A survey of musical styles
and practices of the late 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, concentrating
on composers and compositions that have had a lasting effect of Western
music. Lectures, reference reading, and representative listening examples
are included.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of Music History I and Music History
II are to acquaint students with the styles, composers and compositions
prominent in the development of Western music so that they might better
understand proper performance techniques for current situations. Further,
students should begin to understand the background that led to music of
the 20th century and how the past relates to the present.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION:
A good portion of the class time will be devoted to
lecture and discussion of reading and listening assignments. Other time
will be designated for in-class listening and evaluation.
METHOD OF EVALUATION:
Student's grades will be based on four unit exams,
attendance, and on a written research paper and/or 2 concert attendance
reports. The unit exams will cover textbook assignments, lecture notes
and listening responsibilities.
Miscellaneous:
Students with impaired sensory, manual or speaking
skills are encouraged and have the responsibility to contact their instructor,
in a timely fashion, regarding reasonable accommodation needs.
