Professional Development Workshop Protocol

The following items pertain to the participation, pay, and administrative guidelines in reference to the workshops and training sessions offered through the Office of Faculty Development.

  1. The workshop schedule including dates, times, and topics are at the discretion of the Director of Faculty Development with feedback from Faculty and Administration. The effort here is to make sure that all Butler Learning Centers are considered and that convenience is afforded to everyone.
  2. Workshops will be scheduled on days and times that will maximize opportunities for all to attend.
  3. You will not be awarded points or paid a stipend for activities paid for by Butler Community College.
  4. Saturday training sessions will be scheduled twice each semester in Andover and once each semester at alternating sites between Council Grove, Marion, McConnell, and Rose Hill.
  5. Participation in professional development workshops is limited to Butler employees. Permission must be given by the Director of Faculty Development for non-Butler employees to participate in these workshops. The decision will be based on space availability and the needs of the college in the recruitment of Faculty.
  6. In order to be paid a stipend, you must be currently employed at Butler Community College.
  7. Points are awarded on a one-point per hour of attendance basis or as determined by the Office of Faculty Development.  
  8. For pre-approved activities, including course work, you must secure the permission of the Division Dean.
  9. You are welcome to take a workshop twice but you cannot be awarded points for the same workshop or session.
  10. Faculty will received double professional development points for teaching a session the first time to compensate for organization and preparation time. For subsequent presentations of the same workshop, Faculty will have the choice of being paid a stipend or one PD point per workshop hour.
