Tammy Martinson, CPC, CEMC

"Thinking about going back to school after being out for 15 years was very scary. Butler Community College actually made the process very easy. The programs they offered allowed me to continue working full time and go to school in the evenings. The staff was great to work with and the size of the class allowed me to ask questions without feeling awkward. Butler’s classes helped me prepare to take the CPC test and pass it the first time. I would recommend their programs to anyone. Butler cares about their students."

Carmen Saralegui, RHIT, CPC, CGSC

Butler's advisor helped me get my schedule to fit my lifestyle; since I worked, it was essential that I go to evening classes. I took all the necessary classes from beginners to advanced coding and billing classes, which prepared me, to obtain a CPC, (Certified Professional Coder) certification. I also obtained a CGSC, (Certified General Surgery Coder) certification, and have had the honor to serve as President and different offices for the AAPCWC, (American Academy for Professional Coders, Wichita Chapter).

Since obtaining the certifications, I have worked for several different multi-specialty physician groups making a good salary with great benefits. Butler Community College started me on my way and motivated me to continue my education. After getting, the experience needed to be successful in my career; I can tell you that when you start learning you get hungry to learn. I have to add, that I have now obtained my Associates Degree in Health Information Management and have an RHIT, (Registered Health Information Technologist), national certification. The job opportunities are endless and Butler Community College made it possible for me to pursue my dreams.

I have received a great deal of gratification, while earning my physician coding certificate, through the Butler CC experience. Prior to attending Butler CC, I had been laid off from my job, after over 20 years of service, in the insurance field. I loved working in this field, and wished to continue to work, if not in insurance, then in a related field. So I said to myself, why not pursue a career in physician coding. I had worked with coding previously and always felt that it would be a wonderful career opportunity. I had been told through my professional network, if I was ever interested in physician coding training, that Butler CC was the place to attend. So I decided to pursue education and training at Butler CC. While attending Butler, I had received extensive training in ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS coding, from instructors who had a deep understanding of this subject matter. I found through my training at Butler, I was well prepared for the CPC exam and passed on my very first attempt. Subsequently, I was hired as a Medical Records Coder, by the largest Health Care Organization, in Kansas, and I love it. Thanks to Butler CC, I have received my physician coding certificate and have found the job of a lifetime.

"The classes at Butler Community College prepared me for a wonderful career in medical coding. I earned the certificates for both Medical Billing and Coding Specialist and Medical Office Specialist while attending BCC. These classes gave me the knowledge and confidence to take and pass the national certification test through the American Academy of Professional Coders. The classes also gave me knowledge I use every day in my job! As a certified coder, the opportunities are boundless. Employers are searching for certified coders that understand billing and coding procedures. There are many wonderful opportunities waiting for you!"
