Grizzbowl
Sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa

Single Elimination Rules | Map to the Campus | Registration Form | Schedule

The topic of this year's quiz bowl event at Butler is "1960-2005 – 45 years of Popular Culture". The questions coincide with the 2004-2006 Honors Study Topic for Phi Theta Kappa, International Honor Society for the two year college. Members of the Alpha Phi Alpha chapter of Phi Theta Kappa are running this competition and have added their own unique twist to the “HIGH-Q” event that was sponsored by Butler from 1981-2001. Instead of being High School scholars bowl competition, this is open to all High School and Academic Excellence teams as well as students from high school or colleges that want to form their own teams. The style of questions has not changed. There will be 25 question sets per round (a question set includes a toss up and a related bonus question.)

The categories include:
Literature

Movies
Music
Newsworthy Events
Sports and Leisure
Television
Trends

A qualifying round will consist of 25 question sets in front of a judge and a timekeeper (not a head-to-head competition.) The top 16 teams will proceed to the head to head competition. The Semi-finals and Finals will go head to head using the “HighQ” television set from the television show from the 1980’s and 1990s. These matches will be video taped. These rounds will be taped and shown at a later time. There is a possibility that they will be shown live on BCTV from 2:00-4:00pm on January 28, 2006

All those who participate will receive a certificate of participation. The top 3 teams will receive a plaque, a DVD copy of the semi-final and final rounds. The winning team will also receive a traveling trophy.

NEW TO THIS COMPETITION:

  • A concession stand will be available for lunch and snacks in between rounds.
  • Current or future Butler students will be eligible for a $300 scholarship to be drawn from those in attendance at the competition.
  • A silent auction will go on during the week preceding the competition and will close at the end of the final round and award ceremony. Proceeds from the auction will go toward Phi Theta Kappa’s Relay For Life team (American Cancer Society.)
