New Member Information

Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society for the 2 year college. Phi Theta Kappans are recognized for their academic achievement as well as their community service, fellowship, and leadership. The four hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa, our guiding principles for programming, include: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Fellowship. Our many traditions and customs make this society a "Fellowship of Scholars".

To be eligible for Phi Theta Kappa, you must have a minimum of 12 hours from Butler Community College and have not already obtained a 2 year or 4 year degree. Your cumulative GPA must be a minimum of 3.5 with at least 12 hours from Butler Community College. Part-time, international, and non-traditional students with a prior degree are eligible as long as they are currently attending Butler and have met the requirements.

To join our chapter:

  1. Fill out and turn in the "Phi Theta Kappa Membership Application"
  2. Fill out and turn in " Member Fact Sheet"
  3. Send your check (made out to Butler, memo: Phi Theta Kappa dues) for Membership Fees ($100.00) to:

by February 22, 2008 (to get into the Induction Program.) Induction is February 24, 2008 at 2pm in the Kansas Room of the 1500 building on the El Dorado Campus. If you want to join and it is past the induction date, you may join as late as April 1, 2008 for this semester. However, after February 22, 2008, only online applications will be accepted. You will get more out of your membership if you join as soon as possible, attend all member meetings, and participate in at least 1 chapter project/event.

There will not be another chance to join again until Fall 2008. Many scholarship deadlines come up in February and March, so don't wait to join!

New Member Information Meetings

A brief information session will be held on February 12 in El dorado in the 1000 building, Purple Room from 6-7pm and February 13 in Andover in the 6000 building, room 6416 from 6-7pm. You may bring your application and pay your membership fees at this time.

Officer Positions available

Each year we seek enthusiastic, dedicated, leaders for our organization. We will be selecting officers for the 2008-2009 year and will begin "on the job training" in the spring. Both the current and future officer teams will work together starting in March to plan Scholarship, Leadership, and Service events in April. We would like students who are interested in being officers to attend either the Regional Convention in Kansas City (February 29-March 2) or International Convention in Philadelpha, PA (April 1-6). If you are interested in attending, fundraising will be available throughout the spring to help cover your registration, transportation, and hotel costs.

 

Members will be able to attend one of the following conferences during the 2007-2008 year. Each new member attending will get a $25 discount on the registration cost (meaning that the registration fee will be free or at a much reduced cost to each member. Registration can run from $25 - 65 for local and regional conferences and up to $249+ for International Convention.

Regional Convention - February 29-March 2, 2008- Overland Park, KS

International Convention - April 3-5, 2008 - Philadelphia, PA

Installation of New Officers - TBA - May 16, 2008 - El Dorado, KS
