Welding Course Offerings
WE 111 Welding Survey. 3 hours credit. The fundamentals of arc welding theory and practice are taught. Welding is done in several positions using “70” series classification electrodes. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 112 Oxy-Fuel-Gas Welding. 2 hours credit. Theory and practice in the use of oxyacetylene welding equipment. Brazing and soldering will also be studied. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 113 Cutting Operations. 2 hours credit. Theory and practice in the use of modern cutting methods. Oxyacetylene cutting, plasma cutting, Carbon Arc cutting and shape cutting are the processes covered in this course. Safety in cutting will also be studied.
WE 114 Welding Methods. 2 hours credit. Arc welding of fillet welds in all applicable positions using the Shielded Arc Welding process. Comparative tests of operators and research in modern welding practice are studied. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 116 Shielded Arc Welding. 3 hours credit. Welding of steel in all positions with all types of electrodes. Emphasis on fundamentals and procedure. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 119 Blueprint Reading (Welding). 3 hours credit. Basic fundamentals of drawing interpretation as applied to the welding trade will be studied. Emphasis will be placed on developing the ability to interpret blueprints from which the welder must work. A study of welding symbols will be an integral part of the course.
WE 121 Fundamentals of Welding 1. 3 hours credit. A course in the fundamentals of welding. A survey-type course in Shielded Metal Arc Welding and Gas Metal Arc Welding. Emphasis on the fundamentals of welding various gauges of sheet metal. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 122 Fundamentals of Welding II. 3 hours credit. A course in the fundamentals of welding. A survey type course in Shielded Metal Arc welding and Gas Metal Arc welding. Emphasis on the fundamentals of welding various thicknesses of steel plate, as well as the proper selection and preparation of applicable welding joints. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 212 Automatic Arc and Inert Gas Welding. 2 hours credit. This course covers welding of steel using the gas shielded metal-arc semi-automatic welding process. Emphasis will be placed on using .035 and .045 size solid core wire to weld basic steel joints in all applicable positions. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 213 Pipe Welding and Fitting. 2 hours credit. Prerequisite: WE 116 or welding experience. The practice of Pipe welding using various procedures, as well as the cutting, beveling, preparation and fit-up of pipe prior to the welding process. Pipe saddling and fitting will also be covered. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 215 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. 3 hours credit. The theory and practice of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding. Fundamentals of Welding Steel and Aluminum in various positions with the Gas Tungsten Arc Process, as well as the preparation of metals prior to the welding process will be studied Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 216 Welding Problems. 2 hours credit. The study of problems in welding, and the application of jigs and fixtures. Welding standards and specifications will also be studied. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
WE 219 Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG). 2 hours credit. Welding of aluminum and steel by the Gas Metal Arc process. Setup, operation and maintenance of semi-automatic welding equipment, as well as inert gases, joint design and electrode selection will be studied. Inner-shield and submerged arc processes will also be covered. Safety practices are covered when working with welding equipment.
Metals WE 220 Metallurgy. 3 hours credit. This basic metallurgy course deals with both Ferrous and Non-ferrous metals. Properties of metals, hardness testing, heat treating, quenching, annealing, normalizing, tempering and surface hardening will be covered.
