Train to be one of 16,000 firefighters in Kansas. At Butler, you learn from active firefighters as you control real fires. Through hands-on experience in the college’s state-of-the-art training tower, you are exposed, first-hand, to a variety of elements – including rope rescue, forcible entry and fire evolutions. You also have the opportunity to live in the fire station by applying for Kansas’ only Fire Science Residency Program.

Exclusive Training Tower Used by the Pros & Butler students
The training tower was built by Butler Community College, the El Dorado Fire Department and the City of El Dorado. It is three stories tall with a rooftop, allows fire science students to train more extensively in a realistic environment. Components of the tower include a burn room, smoke features and simulation for high rise evacuations. This state of the art facility allows consistent and year-round training opportunities for not only Butler fire science students, but also professional firefighters from the region.
Kansas’ only Fire Science Residency Program
Butler's Fire Science residency program is so unique it is the only one of its kind in the state of Kansas. As part of our partnership with the El Dorado Fire Department, our program offers the opportunity to work alongside professional firefighters. You won't just study in a hands-on learning environment: you'll live it. Residents have specific shifts to gain on-the-job experiences you won't find anywhere else.
Estimated tuition for Fire Science = $10,020**
**This includes two years of tuition based on being a Kansas Resident and taking 60 credit hours, estimated fees, and estimated books. Housing and meal plans not included. Fees may vary depending on specific degree path.
