WIRED  - About the Workshop

Due to the unprecedented response required for COVID-19, Wired has been postponed until 2021.

This is an intense and exciting training for the digitally inclined. Anyone eager to participate in an immersive/hands on, educational event will want to check this out!  In partnership with Friends University, and AVID, Butler Community College is conducting, a 4-day summer workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the newest online strategies from AVID, as well as learning about how to create Online Educational Resources (OERs). Students will review and develop best practices for building inclusive and accessible materials, create and leverage video content for greater relational capacity and much more! The content for this course begins two weeks prior to the face to face start date with preconference material in an online environment. Participants will also need to complete online post conference work within 1 week after the close date.

Disclaimer:

This is not a how-to course regarding the use of online software or how to use your institution’s Learning Management System (LMS). Faculty who attend this session should already be familiar with the basic functionality of the institution’s LMS including how to post a syllabus, create a discussion board, post assignments, etc. The expectation is for participants to employ several digital tools to leverage hybrid and flipped classrooms, online assignments, video content and digital polling instruments. Bring your laptop and be prepared to use it!

General description of ONLINE WICOR Sessions

Faculty will learn how to apply Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR) strategies in an online course, with an emphasis on building a social presence for both instructor and student. Faculty will discuss and analyze high-impact strategies that will increase student engagement and learning in the online environment.
