Butler CARE TEAM

WHO WE ARE:

The purpose of the CARE Team is to provide the campus community with the necessary information to refer students who are in psychological distress or experiencing personal crises, to the appropriate resources and services on and/or off campus. The CARE Team is comprised of a diverse group of administrators, faculty, and staff from across the college who provide a proactive approach to coordinate and plan responses - to identify, assess, manage, reduce, and educate the campus community as to the risk of individual harm or interpersonal violence.

WHAT WE DO:

Butler’s CARE Team will receive information of concern for students, assess that information, research further information (if necessary), decide on an action plan, and address/respond to concerning behavior. Concerning behaviors, which do not constitute an emergency, may be referred for discussion at the CARE Team’s regularly, scheduled meeting. Examples of such referrals include, but are not limited to:

  • Students exhibiting aggressive behaviors
  • Students who overreact to circumstances
  • Students who imitate or endorse violence; or express violence through writing or verbalization
  • Students who disclose being a victim of violence through writing or verbalization
  • Students who disclose being homeless through writing or verbalization
  • Students exhibiting delusional expressions, appearance of hallucinations, paranoid thinking, or any other related signs of psychosis
  • Students who use alcohol or other substances that have a negative impact on their daily function
  • Students who exhibit detachment from their community
  • Students who make repeated references to seeking revenge
