Butler Community College has worked with the electrical training ALLIANCE of Western Oklahoma to deliver options for two different college degree tracks. For those wanting to earn an Associate of Applied Science with no intention of continuing on in their college career you will be required to take a minimum of 15 credit hours from BCC. This is known as a “non-transferable” degree. The remaining credit of 47 hours will be applied through the training you have earned in your electrical training ALLIANCE of Western Oklahoma apprenticeship program by presenting a copy of your Journeymen’s card.

For those interested in working towards a bachelor’s degree:

Butler and Pittsburg State University have teamed up to provide students the opportunity to earn a four-year Workforce Development degree. The Bachelor of Science in Workforce Development is an online bachelor's degree completion program designed for busy working adults seeking flexible and convenient way to finish their degree. Prospective majors have completed the two-year Butler associate of applied science degree and are interested in pursuing a career in management (leadership and supervision). The Bachelor of Science in Workforce Development is an ideal program for those who are work bound and cannot attend on-campus classes at a college or university.

By enrolling in the BCC Workforce Development AAS you can apply 47 credit hours earned when you receive your Journeyman’s card and take the remaining 26 credit hours from BCC. The Workforce Development AAS degree can be transferred directly into the Bachelor of Science degree at Pittsburg State.

Participation in Butler CC degree programs while in the electrical training ALLIANCE of Western Oklahoma apprenticeship program is allowed and encouraged. The responsibilities to your apprenticeship program are the top priority so please consider training, workload and personal obligations before enrolling at Butler CC.

Students seeking a degree may be responsible to pay tuition, fees and other expenses for general education classes and may want to consider applying for Financial Aid.

Federal Aid Application Process:

• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov.
  • Include the Butler's code 001906.
• The FAFSA information will be forwarded to Butler Community College 7-10 business days after completing the application online.
• Additional requirements may be needed to complete your financial aid file and will be posted to your Pipeline account.
  • Go to FinAid Eligibility Info through the student quick clicks to view financial aid requirements.
• By completing the FAFSA, you are applying for:
  • Federal Grants – Federal Pell Grants and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants.
  • Federal Work-Study – Working on campus, paid $7.25 per hour.
  • Federal Subsidized Direct Student Loans – Loans that the federal government pays the interest on while you are enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
  • Federal Unsubsidized Direct Student Loans – Loans that you owe the interest on from the date of disbursement.
• The FAFSA must be renewed on a yearly basis.  The 2020-2021 application will be used to award federal financial aid for the Fall 2020, Spring 2021, and Summer 2021semesters.
• Students need to complete 67% of their attempted hours with a 2.0 or higher GPA to maintain financial aid eligibility.

Online Orientation

About five days before your online classes are scheduled to begin, we will send you an e-mail through your Butler email account that includes information about:

• Orientation
• How to log into your classes
• When your classes will begin

We encourage you to log on to Canvas as soon as you get this information to become familiar with the course structure and navigation. Be sure to purchase the required course materials right away, as well.

Getting Started Online

Please be sure to review our Virtual Online Orientation. This orientation takes the user on a tour of the online environment from virtually anywhere. If you have not received an email in your Butler email account, by the first day of class, please contact Butler Online by email online@butlercc.edu or phone at 316-218-6000.

Within Canvas, online students are asked to:

Placement Testing

Not everyone needs to take a placement test. Review the list of ACT and SAT scores below. If you have taken either of these tests and received scores at the stated levels or higher, you do not need to take a placement test.

    ACT Scores (within the last three years)

• English - 18

    SAT Scores (within the last three years)

• Evidence-Based Reading and Writing - 480

If you graduated from High School within the last three years we may be able to place you, without placement testing, based on your High School GPA. A copy of your High School transcript is required. See an advisor for your options.

If you are transferring from another college and have completed English course requirements, you may be able to enroll without a placement test. If you have not completed college level English but provide your high school transcript you may not need to placement test. Advising staff will assist you in determining your placement test requirements. 

Placement testing helps you succeed in your course work at Butler. You are required to take the placement test if you do not meet the requirements above. Results are used to identify areas where you would benefit from some additional instruction.

What is the placement test?

The ACCUPLACER test is a computer test that is not timed.

Where can I take a placement test? 

Placement testing occurs at multiple locations in Butler County and Sedgwick County. For information on where and when to take your test, visit the Testing Center Hours and Locations page.

*Note: Academic course testing hours are different than placement testing hours. Please check with the testing site to confirm the date and time you would like to complete your placement test. 

When you arrive to take your test: 

• Check in at Academic Advising and complete the necessary forms to take the test.
• If you are retesting, go to Accounts Receivable (AR) and pay the $5 fee per retested section. (The fee is $25 if you are taking the test to attend a school other than Butler.)
• Present an official photo ID and your AR receipt (if retesting) to the test administrator.
• Take the placement test.

Can I retake a placement test?

Please review our Placement Retesting Policy. Studying for the placement test is highly recommended to ensure accurate placement in English classes.

Complete a paper enrollment form with assistance from on-site Butler personnel.

You will receive an acceptance letter in the mail with your username and password, as well as directions on how to activate your Butler account. This enables you to access your Butler email and all Butler communication. ACTIVATE YOUR BUTLER ACCOUNT IMMEDIATELY! Call Butler Service Desk at 316.733.3306 for assistance.

• Check your postal mail for your Student Schedule/Bill. It can take a few days, but if you're ever concerned it is taking too long, don't hesitate to reach out to us.
• Reminder – The acceptance letter you receive in the mail contains the information needed to activate your account and give you access to your Butler email and all Butler communication. Call Butler Service Desk at 316.733.3306 for assistance.
