Slow Down on Campus

Facilities Management personnel worked yesterday to clean sidewalks and parking lots, but some areas may be slick on campus. Please slow down to 10 mph while on campus and watch your step!

Fall Semester Learning Reimagined

Your success as a Butler student is important to us. This fall will look a little different, but we are committed to your safety while you achieve your educational goals. Classes will begin on August 10, allowing you to wrap up your semester by November 24. We have adjusted instruction and implemented protocols to protect you and your instructors. The information below will provide your options and what you can expect this fall.

GENERAL CAMPUS GUIDELINES

  • Self-screening questionnaire.
    • Prior to coming to campus, review the self-screening questionnaire at www.butlercc.edu/self-screening. If you answer yes to any of the questions, please stay home and notify your instructorsThis does not need to be filled out or submitted but reviewing these questions each day before coming to campus will help ensure the safety and health of all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Face masks are required.
    • Butler Community College requires all students, faculty, staff and visitors to wear a mask in accordance with CDC recommendations. It is the goal of Butler Community College to keep all stakeholders safe by reducing the risk of the spread of COVID-19.
  • These guidelines are subject to change.
    • As you know, COVID-19 data and recommendations are released regularly. As we look to local, state, and national officials for recommendations, our guidelines will be adjusted accordingly. We encourage you to refer to www.butlercc.edu/coronavirus for the latest updates.
  • Stay connected.
    • Butler faculty and staff will communicate critical information throughout the semester. Pay close attention to your Butler email, Canvas, and www.butlercc.edu/coronavirus.
  • Check Canvas prior to the start of classes.
    • Your instructors will release specific instructions for your classes prior to the start of the semester. Be sure to review this information and reach out to your instructors with any questions.

FAQs

  • What if I become ill, am exposed to someone with COVID-19, or travel to locations listed on the quarantine list?
    • You should complete the self-screening questionnaire before coming to campus each day (www.butlercc.edu/self-screening). If you answer yes to any of the questions (including travel to locations on the quarantine list) or are made aware that you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please do not come to campus. Notify your instructors and contact the Butler College Health office at 316.322.3371.
  • What if I am in a high-risk category or live with/take care of someone in a high-risk category?
    • Butler offers a wide variety of online courses so we strongly encouraged students to enroll in an online option.  Not all courses have been developed for online learning.  If an online course option is not available, please complete the Student Request for Remote Learning form and contact Lori Winningham, Vice President of Academics at lwinning@butlercc.edu.  We will consider requests on a case by case basis.
What if I cannot come to campus and miss a class?
    • If you are unable to attend a class meeting, you should notify your instructor and check Canvas for any assignments that are due. Instructors may have recorded lectures and/or lecture notes posted in Canvas with information you will need to stay caught up; however, it is important to stay in communication with your instructor.
  • If my class is divided into groups, what will I do when my group is not meeting face-to-face?
    • If your class section is full and you meet in separate groups, you will have alternate assignments or activities to complete online or remotely when you are not meeting face-to-face. Refer to your course syllabus in Canvas and reach out to your instructor with questions.
  • What if I am unable to start classes on August 10?
    • The schedule has been adjusted with your safety in mind, but you still have options. With our 12 and 8 week classes, you can start at a time that works for you and still finish by Thanksgiving.

FACE-TO-FACE COURSES

Butler will resume face-to-face meetings this fall under specific protocols and guidelines. Contact Academic Advising at 316.218.6259 or 316.322.3163 to get enrolled.

  • Face masks are required.
    • Butler Community College requires all students, faculty, staff and visitors to wear a mask in accordance with CDC recommendations. You will not be allowed to attend a face-to-face class without wearing a mask. We recognize that there may be instances in which you cannot or may choose not to wear a mask. If you are unable or prefer not to wear a mask, you will be given the opportunity to participate in a remote session or you can enroll in an online section. It is the goal of Butler Community College to keep all stakeholders safe by reducing the risk of the spread of COVID-19.
  • Social distancing and class meetings by group.
    • You will be expected to sit and work with social distancing of 6ft between you, your classmates, and instructors. Seat capacities have been adjusted to allow for social distancing. In classes where enrollments exceed these seat capacities, faculty will divide you and your classmates into groups and meet with each group separately. This will allow for social distancing without sacrificing your hands-on learning experience. Be sure to check Canvas prior to the start of classes for specific instructions from your instructors.
  • Remote delivery.
    • You may find that your face-to-face section will be delivered remotely due to faculty needs. This has been noted in the Interactive Schedule. Again, be sure to refer to Canvas before classes start for specific instructions from your instructors.
  • Missed class meetings.
    • If you are unable to attend a class meeting, you should notify your instructor and check Canvas for any assignments that are due. Instructors may have recorded lectures and/or lecture notes posted in Canvas with information you will need to stay caught up; however, it is important to stay in communication with your instructor.
    •

Students who prefer online learning or do not feel comfortable returning to face-to-face instruction this fall can enroll in online courses. Contact Academic Advising at 316.218.6259 or 316.322.3163 to get enrolled.
