Livestock Management & Merchandising

Teaching to the highest professional standards of animal husbandry.

There’s a lot of science involved in managing the health of livestock, and the logistics involved in bringing them to market can be very complex as well. It’s great work for people who love being around animals and managing the big picture of livestock operations. The Livestock Management & Merchandising programs at Butler prepares you for a rewarding career in the field or to go on to pursue a degree in Veterinary Medicine.

Butler offers both an Associate’s degree and a certification program in Livestock Management. The comprehensive Associate’s curriculum includes design and operation of housing, feeding and processing facilities, regulations, logistics and marketing management. The certification program prepares you for farm and ranch management positions and includes instruction in principles of agricultural production and farm and ranch operations.

One of the best arguments for the quality of our Livestock Management program is Butler’s sustained championship level performance at national livestock judging competitions. The events test important skills in livestock selection, and Butler has the only program in the nation that has secured national championship finishes for the past five seasons. We were named the North American champion in six of the last nine competitions in Louisville, Kentucky, and even completed a rare “three-peat” as champions of the National Western Stock Show in Denver.
