HEERF III FAQ - ARP

The Department has removed the limitations regarding student eligibility criteria. All students enrolled during the period of the national emergency may be eligible. Institutions may create their own eligibility criteria as long as they continue to prioritize students with exceptional need.

Summer 2021 Grants to Students
To eliminate barriers and provide needed assistance to students as expeditiously as possible, Butler awarding HEERF III grants through block awards to students. No application is necessary. Award amounts are based on enrollment and financial aid status with Pell eligible students prioritized:

• High School Students enrolled in 6 or more credit hours
• Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours with a Pell eligible EFC
• Students enrolled in 6-11 credit hours with a Pell eligible EFC
• Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours with no FAFSA on file or no Pell eligible EFC
• Students enrolled in 6-11 credit hours with no FAFSA on file or no Pell eligible EFC

Enrollment and financial aid status is as determined on June 21, 2021 for the Summer 2021 semester. Students enrolled in less than 6 credit hours will not receive an award. Students receiving an award will be notified by Butler email.

Students with Prior Account Balance
Butler Community College identifies students who are experiencing financial hardship, and unable to pay their student account balances, as students with exceptional need or those with extraordinary financial circumstances. Student account balances create additional barriers for students by preventing future enrollment, withholding of transcripts, and potentially limiting the transfer of educational credits.

Students who were enrolled during the Spring 2021 semester who are experiencing financial hardship and are unable to pay their student account balances may apply for a HEERF III emergency student grant. Grants will be awarded up to the amount of the student's prior account balance. Students will be presented the option to apply their HEERF III emergency student grant to their account balance. Receipt of the student emergency grant is not conditioned on the student providing authorization to apply the funds to their student account balance nor anticipation of future enrollment.

Fall 2021 Grants to Students
To eliminate barriers and provide needed assistance to students as expeditiously as possible, Butler awarding HEERF III grants through block awards to students. No application is necessary. Award amounts are based on enrollment and financial aid status with Pell eligible students prioritized.:

• High School Students enrolled in 6 or more credit hours
• Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours with a Pell eligible EFC
• Students enrolled in 6-11 credit hours with a Pell eligible EFC
• Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours with no FAFSA on file or no Pell eligible EFC
• Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours with no FAFSA on file or no Pell eligible EFC

Enrollment and financial aid status is as determined on October 18, 2021 for the Fall 2021 semester. Students enrolled in less than 6 credit hours will not receive an award. Students receiving an award will be notified by Butler email.

Spring 2022 Grants to Students
To eliminate barriers and provide needed assistance to students as expeditiously as possible, Butler awarding HEERF III grants through block awards to students. No application is necessary. Award amounts are based on enrollment and financial aid status with Pell eligible students prioritized.:

• High School Students enrolled in 6 or more credit hours
• Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours with a Pell eligible EFC
• Students enrolled in 6-11 credit hours with a Pell eligible EFC
• Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours with no FAFSA on file or no Pell eligible EFC
• Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours with no FAFSA on file or no Pell eligible EFC

Enrollment and financial aid status is as determined on February 28, 2022 for the Spring 2022 semester. Students enrolled in less than 6 credit hours will not receive an award. Students receiving an award will be notified by Butler email.

Reclaimed Funds
Butler Community College disbursed $7,112,440.43 in HEERF III student grants. Refunds were issued electronically by direct deposit or by paper check mailed through USPS for students who did not elect direct deposit. Students with uncashed checks were called and emailed in an attempt to have them cash or deposit their disbursement check. After 180 days outstanding checks were voided due to age. This resulted in a total of $46,345.61 in reclaimed funds. The funds were redistributed to students meeting the following criteria:

• 0 EFC
• Has not previously received a HEERF disbursement
• Enrolled in e-refunding/direct deposit
• Enrolled in 12 or more credit hours as of 10/19/2022

Students receiving an award will be notified by Butler email.

Summer 2021
Students meeting Butler award criteria for HEERF III summer grants do not need to complete an application nor submit any other paperwork. Butler is awarding HEERF III summer grants through block awards based on enrollment and financial aid status.

Students with Prior Account Balance
Students who are eligible for this disbursement of funds are notified by Accounts Receivable with a link to the application. Students will be provided the option to apply their HEERF grant to their student account balance. Providing authorization is not a condition of the award and has no impact on the amount of award the student receives.

Students who authorized application of HEERF grant(s) to their Butler account during a prior disbursement will not be required to submit an application. Prior authorization is treated as acknowledgement that the student is experiencing financial hardship and having difficulty in paying their student account.

Fall 2021
Students meeting Butler award criteria for HEERF III Fall grants do not need to complete an application nor submit any other paperwork. Butler is awarding HEERF III Fall grants through block awards based on enrollment and financial aid status.

Spring 2022
Students meeting Butler award criteria for HEERF III Spring grants do not need to complete an application nor submit any other paperwork. Butler is awarding HEERF III Spring grants through block awards based on enrollment and financial aid status.

Reclaimed Funds
Students meeting Butler award criteria for HEERF III Reclaimed Funds do not need to complete an application nor submit any other paperwork.

HEERF III funds can be used for any component of the student's cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus. Examples of permissible costs include:

• Tuition and fees
• Food
• Housing
• Health care (including mental health care)
• Child care

Students may use HEERF III funds to reduce or possibly pay in full their account balance by completing an authorization. Students may provide authorization in the following ways:

1. Students may complete an authorization form electronically at butlercc.edu/paymybill
2. Check your email for an attached authorization form and return to the Accounts Receivable Office
3. Sign the authorization form in the Financial Aid or Accounts Receivable Office

Students whose award is in excess of their student account charges will receive a credit balance refund for the difference.

Students not providing authorization will not have the grant applied to their Butler account charges. This may mean the student still has a balance due.

Yes. Students who do not authorize the award to reduce their student account balance, or whose award is in excess of their student account balance, will receive a credit balance refund. These refunds will be issued through direct deposit. Students may sign-up for direct deposit by selecting the 'My Account' tile from My.ButlerCC . This is the quickest way for a student to receive their funds.

Students not signed up for direct deposit will have a check mailed via USPS to their address of record.

The Spring 2022 HEERF distribution is the final disbursement. No additional funds remain.
