HEERF I FAQ - CARES

The Coronavirus Aid, Relieve, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was signed in to law on March 27th, 2020.  The CARES Act provides for education stabilization through emergency funding to institutions of higher education through Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF I). Institutions accepting CARES funding must commit to providing at least 50% of the funds in the form of emergency student aid relief, to assist eligible students with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19.

Butler used the allocation of CARES Act funds to establish the Butler CARES Emergency Student Aid program, to assist eligible students with unexpected expenses related to the disruption of campus operations such as technology, course materials, housing, food, health care, and childcare.

In an attempt to meet Congress’s intent to deliver emergency student aid relief as expeditiously as possible, while prioritizing students with exceptional need, Butler has identified two categories of students - students receiving direct disbursement without an application and students who may apply for remaining funds by completing the online application process. The application process is now closed.

Butler is committed to supporting student success. We recognize you may have experienced unexpected costs due to the disruption of campus operations related to COVID-19. As part of the Federal CARES Act, Butler has received a limited amount of funds to award to students as emergency student aid to help reduce the burden of these costs.
