About Emergency Medical Technician

When lives are on the line, you can make a critical difference.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) are in the business of saving lives. When an accident happens or a natural disaster occurs or someone is the victim of a violent crime, EMTs are the first responders who deliver vital care in the critical minutes before the patient arrives at the hospital.

Butler’s training program for EMTs emphasizes real-world clinical experience in a variety of emergency settings. You’ll learn what it’s like to work with Butler County Sheriff Detectives, and train for rescue operations with Butler County Rescue Squad. You’ll get firsthand exposure to EMS operations in the field with Butler County EMS and Sedgwick County EMS and in area emergency rooms. We’ll teach you critical skills such as wound management, how to immobilize a fractured limb or neck and the use of emergency equipment like defibrillators and airway devices.

EMT classes are available at our campuses in Andover, El Dorado, Rose Hill, McConnell Air Force Base, Marion, and Council Grove. We also have a partnership agreement with Cowley College through which our students can participate in their Paramedic program offered in Andover.

Positions in the field are growing at more than twice the national average for all occupations. Many EMTs use their training and experience to go on to get further education and become paramedics, physician’s assistants or nurses. Get started on an exciting, vitally important career with EMT training.
