Susan Gabriel
Director, Accelerated Learning Program
Community College of Baltimore County

Susan GabrielSusan Gabriel is the Director of the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) at the Community College of Baltimore County . She has more than 20 years’ experience teaching developmental writing, and as an Associate Professor of English, she has taught all levels of composition at CCBC. She has a B.A. in English and a B.S. in education from Bowling Green State University as well as an M.A. in English (with a composition emphasis) from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE).

Prior to joining the faculty of CCBC, Susan spent eight years as the director of the SIUE Corporate Writing Program where she created custom-designed business writing workshops for corporations in the St. Louis area. She is the co-author of (Irwin/McGraw Hill 1999), and in her role as the ALP director, she has made presentations and conducted workshops at many national conferences, including the League for Innovation, DREAM, the Modern Language Association, the Conference on College Composition and Communication, and CCBC’s Conference on Acceleration in Developmental Education (CADE).



Jesse Kiefner
Director, Accelerated Mathematics Program
Community College of Baltimore County

Jesse kiefnerJesse Kiefner studied at Towson University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Master of Science degree in Applied & Industrial Mathematics. Jesse's current role is Associate Professor of Mathematics at the Community College of Baltimore County, where he also serves as the Director of its Accelerated Mathematics Program. In addition to leading the acceleration program, he teaches a variety of face-to-face, online, developmental, and credit-level mathematics courses. Jesse is most proud of advancing the acceleration initiatives at the College and leading the movement toward adoption of open educational resources in the mathematics department.

Saxon CampusDr. D. Patrick Saxon is an Associate Professor and Director of the fully online Developmental Education Administration Doctoral Program at Sam Houston State University. He has published extensively in the field of developmental education and is a coauthor of the book Attaining Excellence in Developmental Education: Research-Based Recommendations for Administrators. For 22 years he managed the research activities of the National Center for Developmental Education. He is the editor of Research in Developmental Education, a member of the National Association for Developmental Education Executive Board, and serves on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of College Reading and Learning. He is an advisor for the Kellogg Institute at Appalachian State University and a consultant for the Charles A. Dana Center at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2015, he was inducted as a Fellow in the Council for Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations.
