Butler's Livestock Judging Team Named "Champion Team Overall"

Butler Livestock Judging at the Barrow Show in 2016
Published: Monday, October 17th, 2016

Butler's Livestock Judging Team earned national recognition this September at the National Barrow Show in Austin, Minnesota, bringing home the title of Champion Team Overall.

It is the first time in 20 years that the trip was made, and the first time in five years that Butler’s Livestock Judging Team won such a nationally recognized event.

“Our contest was on a Monday, and they don’t know the results until Tuesday morning,” said livestock judging coach Marcus Arnold. “I was extremely excited for the team Tuesday morning for this accomplishment.  They worked very hard and were very deserving of this honor.”

The sophomore team has a very strict practice schedule, including hours of work during the week and livestock judging activities on the weekends.

“The sophomore team practices four to five days a week,” said Arnold. "They practice Reasons on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.  Then, they look at live animals Friday – Sunday.  We will travel to different livestock producers’ farms to judge animals.”
