Butler County Project SEARCH celebrates 2019 Interns
Butler Community College, partner of Project SEARCH, hosts 2019 intern celebration at the Hubbard Welcome Center.
Project SEARCH is a resource to help disabled individuals find employment. Butler County Special Education Interlocal proudly represents one of 285 Project SEARCH sites around the world. They are moving toward their seventh year of existence in Butler County, reaching a total of nine school districts. Students of this program complete an internship in their last year of high school to explore numerous career paths. These students learn employment skills, receive job training and have the opportunity to intern with three different local businesses. After their internship is completed, if students have not already acquired a job, they are assisted in finding a suitable occupation.
This year’s celebration, held in mid-May, recognized eight students who completed the program. The event was held at the Butler Community College Hubbard Welcome Center where the Project SEARCH office is currently located due to its strong partnership with the college.
Project SEARCH has several business partners in the Butler County area which provide multiple internship positions for students. Recognized as 2019 Spotlight Partner of the Year was Cole Gilliland and the Environmental Service Staff of Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital (SBAMH) for their support and service to the program.
