Butler Community College’s nursing department celebrated 67 new graduates at their bi-annual Nurses Pinning Ceremony on Friday, December 13, at the El Dorado Performing Arts Center.
Dr. Kim Krull, president of Butler Community College, encouraged graduates to recognize their family and friends for their support before thanking the class. “It takes special people to do the work you do. Thank you for making [the] commitment to this tremendous profession. You stand on the verge of being leaders and innovators, and you bring us hope and inspiration,” said Krull.
Associate Dean of Nursing and Allied Health Janet Schueller addressed the audience while recognizing the graduates’ dedication to the program. “The nursing faculty and I thank them for being leaders who invest themselves in promoting quality and hope they continue to promote exceptional nursing leadership in a positive way for the communities they serve.”
“Nursing school doesn’t just test your knowledge, it tests your determination, your stamina and your motivation,” said Jesse Reed, Class President and KU BSN Graduate. His speech sparked laughter as he reminisced about the memories and challenges the class faced together. "Today we aren’t just graduates, we’re at the final step to becoming nurses, and that’s not just a title, it’s a calling.”
Graduate Chasity Hendershot and faculty member Shane Greene each received the 2024 DAISY Award. The DAISY Award is a national award which recognizes students and educators who demonstrate excellent nursing attributes.
Twelve graduates also completed Butler’s partnership program with the University of Kansas, earning their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from KU and their associate degree from Butler simultaneously.
The ceremony is available online at https://www.butlercc.edu/BCTVplus or on the BCTV+ app.
