Culinary Arts and Cooking School - What It's All About

Ahh, the smell of spices, the sound of bustling workers, the site of a food masterpiece and the taste of success. It’s all wrapped up in one of the best culinary arts programs in the region. Butler’s professors haven’t just taught, they’ve performed. Our executive chef graduated from two of the country’s top culinary schools, The International Culinary Center and The Institute of Culinary Education.

Do you like the back of the house or the front of the house?

Butler's culinary arts degree focuses on the “back of the house.” You’ll learn culinary techniques, how ingredients interact with one another, and the setup required when cooking.

To get the flavor just right, you must know the chemistry of baking. Knowing the leavening time for the dough you make can be crucial when serving 100 people at 5:30. Custards, breads, soufflés...nom nom.

Want to run a culinary business?

With savory food comes business, and managing the business side is important too. Our faculty will train you to plan a menu and manage costs. You’ll learn how to operate a business by understanding profit margins, purchasing and where to cut your losses.

Also, learn soft skills, including teamwork where you rely on others to get the job done. Succeeding in Culinary Arts is tough work, but is it satisfying? Absolutely.

Master the art and science of fine cuisine.
