Requirements for CNA, CMA, HHA, and CNA

    Prerequisites for Certified Nurse Aide (AH122 - 5 credit hours)

    Bring the following ON THE FIRST DATE OF CLASS:
    • Copy of TB skin test or chest X-ray current within one year
    • Copy of physician's statement of good health
      (above two items available at College Health Services)
    • Copy of social security card
    • CNA students will need to wear a purple polo shirt purchased at the BCC Bookstore, and white slacks or skirt, purchased at the store of your choice. The shoes should be white leather or vinyl with little or no color on them. No canvas shoes. No crocs. No open toes or open heels. You will ned a watch with a second hand. Wear street clothes on the first day of class. Your instructor will provide a schedule and tell you when to wear the uniform.
    • It is a policy of the BCC Department of Nursing that students in the clinical area do not have facial piercing, visible tatoos, long fingernails, or false fingernails. No dangling earrings can be worn
Each student will pay a $20.00 fee for the state exam. This appears as a course fee and will be collected with tutition.
Evening CNA classes also meet on some Saturdays 8:00am - 5:00pm. Book(s) available at BCC Bookstores. (El Dorado, Andover, Marion, Council Grove)

HHA

Prerequisites for Home Health Aide (AH117 - 2 credit hours)
    • Must be a Certified Nurse Aide in Kansas or have just completed the Certified Nurse Aide class. Note to Advising: The student might have taken CNA at another College and CNA will not be on Butler transcript. The student must show you a CNA card.
    • Note to Advising: The student can enroll in HHA if he or she has finished CNA, but is waiting to take the CNA State exam.
    • Student must take the ASSET test before enrolling. (Advising will administer)
    • Bring the following ON THE FIRST DATE OF CLASS: Certified Nurse Aide Card. Each student will pay a $20.00 fee for the state exam. This appears as a course fee and will be collected with tuition.

CMA

Prerequisites for Certified Medication Aide (AH120 - 5 credit hours)
    • Must be a Certified Nurse Aide in Kansas or just completed the CNA class. Note to Advising: The Student might have taken CNA at another College and CNA will not be on Butler transcript, the student must show you a CNA card. The student can enroll in CMA if he or she has finished CNA, but is waiting to take the CNA State exam.
    • Must take the ASSET test before enrolling. Advising will administer this.
    • Bring the following ON THE FIRST DATE OF CLASS: Certified Nurse Aide Card, negative TB skin test and current physical
    • CMA students can wear a white uniform or scrubs of any color. The shoes should be white leather or vinyl with little or no color on them. No canvas shoes. No crocs. No open toes or open heels.
    • It is a policy of the BCC Department of Nursing that students in the clinical area do not have facial piercing, visible tatoos, long fingernails, or false fingernails. No dangling earrings can be worn.
