Admissions to Nursing

Traditional Cohort

Butler’s nursing program uses a selective admission process for all nursing applicants. Once you are accepted as a Butler student and have completed or are currently completing the required pre-requisites and TEAS exam, you can apply to the Nursing Program. You can apply as either a traditional or advanced standing nursing student. We admit students to the El Dorado campus every semester and to the Winfield campus every fall semester as part of the traditional ADN program.

To be qualified for acceptance to the traditional ADN program, students must meet the following pre-requisites:

  • English Comp 1 with a C or higher
  • General Psychology with a C or higher
  • Anatomy and Physiology with a C or higher
  • College Algebra (or its equivalent) with a C or higher
  • Complete TEAS test with a composite score greater than or equal to national benchmark

Advanced Standing Cohort

LPNs who are seeking to advance their degree and become a Registered Nurse, can apply for Butler’s Advanced Standing program. Butler admits students to this transition cohort every semester. Once you complete of a semester of transition courses, you can join the traditional cohort to complete the last year of the ADN program.

To be qualified for the Advanced Standing program, students must meet the following pre-requisites with a C or higher:

  • Current and active PN license in the state of KS
  • English Comp 1
  • General Psychology
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • College Algebra (or its equivalent)
  • Pathophysiology
  • Developmental Psychology
  • Therapeutic Nutrition
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher (based on grades earned in pre-requisite courses)

Deadlines to be considered for admission of both Advanced Standing and Traditional cohorts are May 20th for the following fall semester and September 20th for the following spring semester.
