2007-2008 Livestock Team Completes Banner Year
The Butler Community College Livestock Judging Program has completed another season filled with numerous Championships and individual accomplishments! Victories at the North American International Livestock Expo in Louisville; The National Western in Denver and The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo brought the programs national victory total to twenty-one this decade!!
"It's been an extraordinary year for this deep and gifted group of young people," stated Coach Chris Mullinix. "I don't know that I have ever coached a group of students with the collective will to win like this group of sophomores. Like every year, challenges arose but they stepped up and met each challenge head on. In the end, no other team matched their level of success. It's been a pleasure to watch them mature individually and as a group and I think their contest achievements speak for themselves."
This years talent laden, sophomore group consistently ranked amongst the nation's elite both in the overall results and in the prestigious oral reasons division. They concluded the season with five students being named to the fifteen member "National Junior & Community College All-American Team!" Perhaps, most remarkably was the depth and success of every student.
Coach Mullinix commented, "For the first time in my ten plus years of coaching we saw every student, both freshman and sophomore, recognized for individual accomplishments at multiple competitions. The sophomores took that one step forward with every member being a contributor on the floor for at least two championship teams! Obviously, depth was a powerful strength of this team!"
The 2007-2008 team's eighteen members has also maintained a cumulative GPA of over 3.7 during the season and each of the team's graduates has received substantial scholarship money to numerous four year universities nation-wide. This year's graduates have decided to further their education at Kansas State University, Texas Tech University and Texas A&M University.
