Butler Community College hosted the annual 2026 Butler County Spelling Bee on Friday, February 6 in the R.D. Hubbard Welcome Center on the El Dorado campus. Samuel Riley of Andover Middle School was named champion for the second year in a row. A total of 25 contestants from Butler County elementary and middle schools competed, with Samuel correctly spelling "hydrophobia" in the sixth round to be named the winner. Second and third place were solidified in the eleventh round. Riley will now compete in the State Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS

Butler Community College and Friends University have partnered to expand opportunities for students pursuing advanced Spanish studies, creating a new scholarship to recognize academic achievement and language proficiency. Butler Community College is pleased to announce Dr. Marc Malone has been named Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs for the College. His first day will be Thursday, April 2, 2026. Dr. Malone holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas, a Master of Arts in English Literature from Iowa State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and French from Illinois College. The Butler Community College Foundation is pleased to announce that the scholarship application for the 2026–2027 academic year is now available and open for students to complete. The Foundation has moved its scholarship awarding timeline earlier in the year to better support students in planning for the upcoming academic year. By awarding scholarships between March and May of 2026, students will know in advance how much assistance they will receive—allowing them to more accurately anticipate their cost to attend Butler in the fall. Butler Community College has announced the President’s and Dean’s Honor Roll recipients for the Summer and Fall 2025 semesters. To be named on the President’s Honor Roll, students must have earned a 4.0 GPA, and students on the Dean’s List earned a 3.50 - 3.99 GPA. For both semester lists, students are organized by in-state versus out-of-state, then alphabetically by hometown and last name. Additionally, Wichita recipients are broken out by zip codes. The Butler Community College Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Kim Trujillo and Brett Martinez, received an invitation to perform at the 2026 Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) In-Service Workshop on Thursday, February 26, at Century II Convention Center in Wichita. Being chosen to perform at the workshop is the highest honor a performing ensemble can receive in the state. Butler Community College’s nursing department celebrated 57 new graduates at their bi-annual Nurses Pinning Ceremony at the El Dorado Performing Arts Center on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
