Addition of digital media program to fine arts division reflects evolving student needs.

Butler Community College announced its Fine Arts and Communications division will now be known as the Arts, Digital Media and Communications division, effective July 1.

Valerie Haring, a longtime member of the arts faculty recently appointed dean of the division, sees the change benefiting students and school alike. “[It’s] a vibrant division that promotes the arts through advanced academic programs and performance opportunities. The rebranding signals that Butler Community College is responsive to the needs of our students and the ever-evolving job market in our region,” Haring said.

By positioning digital media courses alongside arts and communications classes, Butler looks to provide an improved artistic learning experience for digital media students preparing to enter a rapidly-expanding industry deeply rooted in creative expression.

Butler’s Vice President of Academics Tom Nevill, DMA, says the change is meant to bring together like-minded students and teachers. “The nexus for re-organizing and re-branding [is] to align the management of programs. [We] remain focused on students reaching their educational and career goals through an interdisciplinary pathway of leading-edge industry technology training, university transfer and personal enrichment.”
