Butler Community College Announces Winners of Butler County Spelling Bee

Top three spellers place at Butler County Spelling bee hosted at Butler Community College.
Three local students were recognized as the top spellers following the Butler County Spelling Bee hosted by Butler Community College in El Dorado on February 2. Carey Chesire named champion of 2024 spelling bee

Butler Community College hosted the annual Butler County Spelling Bee on Friday, February 2 in the R.D. Hubbard Welcome Center on the El Dorado campus. Carey Chesire of Andover Middle School was named champion. 
 
A total of 26 contestants from Butler County elementary and middle schools competed for six total rounds. Chesire was the only student to advance to the Championship Round. 
 
Chesire correctly spelled the word “intersperse” to be named the winner. He will now move on to the state spelling bee on Saturday, March 23, at Mabee Arena at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. 
 
Laurel Beach of Remington Middle School earned second place and Blake Dunbar of Grandview Elementary in El Dorado placed third.
