Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) held its annual All-State Academic Team Ceremony to celebrate this year’s award recipients in Junction City, KS, on Friday, April 12.

Three members of Butler Community College’s PTK chapter were honored at the ceremony for being named to the prestigious All-State Academic Team (with major and hometown):

  • April Draut (Marketing – Wichita)
  • Sarah Penick (Psychology – Towanda)
  • Jessica Reyes (Computer Science – Wichita)

For earning All-State honors, students received a $300 stipend, a medal and a certificate of achievement.

Students were joined at the ceremony by family and friends as well as members of Butler’s administration, including President Dr. Kim Krull, Vice President of Student Services Bill Rinkenbaugh and co-interim Vice Presidents of Academics Dr. Phil Speary and Dr. Heather Rinkenbaugh.

Chrissy Gifford, Butler’s PTK chapter advisor and Heartland Region Alumni Advisor for PTK, emphasized the importance of the event and recognizing student achievement. “When students join PTK it means they are the cream of the crop at their school. They earned this by their hard work, dedication, and determination. It is totally worth celebrating them,” she said.

At the ceremony, Kansas State Representative Kyle Hoffman gave Butler President Dr. Kim Krull a special recognition for her years of service to community colleges as she nears her retirement.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, founded in 1918, is the largest honor society for two-year colleges, with 1,285 college chapters in all 50 states and abroad. More than 3 million students have been inducted since the organization’s founding, with nearly 134,000 inducted annually.
