Butler Judging Program

Butler Community College has feilded a premier junior college livestock judging program for at least the past two decades. The livestock judging program offers students an intensive learning process that indludes livestock selection and its application to the industry. While competition is important to the learning process of judging team members, it is not the only component of their training. Many hours are spent evaluating stock at several of the leading operations in Kansas and across the nation.

It only takes a brief walk through the halls of the Butler Ag Building to see the countless plaques, banners and trophies that decorate the walls.  These accolades include more than 60 champion or reserve-champion finishes at national competitions. In addition, Butler has fielded 48 All-Americans— more than twice as many as any other junior college program. In 2016-2017, the Livestock Judging Team was named Team of the Year and five Butler students were All-American recipients. There are only 15 All-American slots. In addition, both Butler coaches were awarded coach of the year. This winning tradition is the result of a dedication to hard work and a commitment to excellence.

While there have been many accomplishments at a variety of contests, there is more to the program than just winning contests. We strive to instill the value of academics. During the past five years, over 40 Butler Judging students have maintained a cumulative GPA above 3.7.  That being said, Butler stands unparalleled in generating Academic All Americans; a feat achieved by individuals with a work ethic dedicated towards competitive judging skills backed by a pronounced GPA.

We encourage students to apply for Butler Scholarships. Butler gives away more than $600,000 in scholarships every year.
