About the Library

Discover all the knowledge at the heart of your college.

As the novelist Sidney Sheldon once put it, “Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination.” After you have visited the L.W. Nixon Library on Butler’s El Dorado campus or  any of our other libraries on other campuses, we hope you will agree. Even in the digital age, libraries are still the academic heart of most colleges, and they certainly are at Butler.

Our libraries serve faculty and students and the community alike, providing all the resources you need for instruction, study and research in an environment that facilitates learning. Our collections offer many thousands of titles, audiobooks, eBooks and DVDs, all of which can be found on our online catalogs, including a number of special collections that are unique to our libraries. You can view a video online that explains how to use the catalog. We'll issue a community member a library card; students, faculty and staff use Butler ID cards.

Not your father’s library

Technology is in plentiful supply at the library as well. We have laptops available for check-out, and students can also use any of our desktop stations which are equipped with Microsoft Office and offer free Internet access. You can even have some fun with our technology, playing Wii games or Guitar Hero or taking in a movie on our large screen TV.

At our El Dorado location, we have meeting space available with seating for up to 24 and access to a Smartboard. You can reserve the room by contacting the library at lwnixon@butlercc.edu or 316-322-3234. Our Library Latte coffee bar is also a great place to compare notes with other students while you enjoy a relaxing beverage.

Of course, librarians are the best resource for information about the library, so if you need help with anything from the use of our databases to writing research papers, just ask us. We are here to help you get the most out of your library.
