Cost of Attendance Glossary

 

  • Books and Supplies –  The estimated average amount for required course materials and books. 
  • Dependent Care Expenses – Butler does not automatically include costs for dependent care expenses in the COA. A student can request an allowance for dependent care to be included in their COA. The student will need to provide to the Financial Aid office the average costs they are incurring per week for dependent care while for such things as class-time, student-time, field work, internships, and commuting time. The documentation will need to include the number and age of dependents.
  • Disability Related Expenses – Butler does not automatically include costs for disability related expenses in the COA. A student can request an allowance for disability related expenses to be included in the COA. The student will need to provide to the Financial Aid office the average costs they are incurring per week for items such as special services, personal assistance, transportation, equipment and supplies that are not provided for by any other agency. 
  • Certification - Allowance for costs associated with a program certification fee incurred during your program of study at Butler.
  • Computer -  the cost of a computer purchase to be used for school above what is already allowed.
  • Credential - Allowance for costs associated with a program credential fee incurred during your program of study at Butler.
  • Fees – The estimated average amount for general fees not counting the Technology Access Fee. Your actual amount will appear as charges on your Butler student account.
  • Housing and Food –  The estimated average amount for rent, utilities, and meals. Your actual amount may vary based on your personal choices and whether you live at home with a family member, or you live on campus in a residence hall, or you live off campus. 
  • Loan Fees –  The average amount of $33.00 per semester for a dependent student or $55.00 per semester for an independent student.
  • Military Housing Allowance – For students whom we are aware are receiving military housing allowances BAH, they will have their food and housing portion reduced to $2032 per semester 
  • Parent PLUS Loan Fees - the actual fee amount will be used and added to the students COA when a Parent PLUS loan is originated.
  • Personal –  This is an estimated average of costs for personal items such as clothing, haircuts, entertainment, etc. for the year. Money actually spent on these types of items will vary from student to student. These items will not appear on your Butler Community College bill.
  • Professional Licensure - Allowance for costs associated with a professional licensure fee incurred during your program of study at Butler.
  • Technology Charge –  amount is based on enrollment. For full time the amount is $278 per semester. 
  • Transportation –  The estimate average amount of traveling to and from campus or the cost of operating and maintaining a vehicle.
  • Tuition –  The amount of money that must be paid for classes; amounts may be based on residency status, course level, instructional method, or hours of enrollment. Your actual amount will appear as charges on your Butler student account.
